Leyland Olympic EL44.5 (1970s Cuba)
Leyland Olympic in CUBA
Typical urban bus in Habana Cuba around 1970.
These picture are 5 frames grabbed from a video.
You will find 5 sequential frames showing the front and side of the bus.
The pictures are not high quality of course; but the details are easily recognized and for Cubans in particular they bring cherished memories.
Thanks for the reply

Jun 24, 2010 | 8:10 pmThese Leyland Olympic MCW also operated in Kingston ,Jamaica ,by the Jamaica Omnibus Service-a British -owned bus company. They were called "L" buses. The first set arrived in Jamaica in 1966,just in time for the commonwealth games. They carried the powerful Leyland 0680 engines. There were some deviation from the Cuban Model-----they had advetising billboard-type lighting on the outside, they also had destination signs in the rear as well as the front, they had a entrance and exit door. Leyland discontinued manufacturing them in 1971 with the introduction of the Leyland Nationals.

Jun 24, 2010 | 8:13 pmOh the Glory days of the buses in Havana!!
These Leyland Olympic served like beasts of burden through the late sixties and the seventies around Havana.
There were other diferent models that served the inter-province service. Some of them were "Olympics" other were "Tiger", I remember like 4 or 5 diferent models. This picture must be from the early days tehy got to Havana
late 1964-early 65. Notice the brightness of the paint. After they were painted by cubans, the quality of the paint was never the same.

Dec 01, 2010 | 9:05 amWow! These pictures bring back fun memories when I was a child. In fact, I remember riding in my uncle's bus as he drove route 37 form La Vivora through Santo Suarez.
Thanks Classic Bus.

HI, I have spent half a year in Habana when I was a child (1968). In my family photo archives I found a better (at least a color) photo of such a bus (I think it's the same model). I would like to share but don't know how.
Regards
Zdzislaw
