Bus 2. (the bus in a depot stall) This is an MCI Courier 96 4 cyl. diesel with a 4 speed synchromesh transmission. This 41 seater was built in the mid-1950's and was in service with Vancouver Island Coach Lines until the early 1970's. This picture was taken at their Campbell River, BC Depot in 1969.

Bus 3. (The bus with the shrubbery in the background) This is a Flyer Industries bus that Vancouver Island Coach Lines used on their logging camp runs from Campbell River to Port Hardy. This was a 24 seat bus with the remainder of the passenger section walled off and used for express. (We would often carry 200 pieces of express on trips north.) The leaf spring suspension was ideal for the 8 hours of logging roads we drove to get up to Port Hardy. The bus has a V8 Diesel with a 5 speed synchromesh transmission. This picture was taken in 1969.

Nov 27, 2011 | 10:31 pmWow this was great finding a picture of this bus. Especially parked at the depot. My dad drove for Vancouver Island Coach Lines out of Campbell River. I beleive he started in '62 and my grandfather washed the buses for a few years back then as well. My dad's name was Pat Jackson. I was searching for a picture of the buses that he drove for something that I am working on. Thank you very much for posting these.

There was an MCI Courier 96 like this operating out of Riverside, CA in the early '70s for a short while, run by "Golden West Stages". The owner/driver fried the 4-71 due to overheating and I believe it went to scrap. He said it was underpowered compared to the 4104s.
