YOUR COMMENTS
Hello,
My name is Joseph Fletcher and I am a writer. I am writing a book at the moment about home pressed christian recordings from the 50's thru to the 70's. On many of the album covers the group or family also have a bus with their name written across the side. These groups didn´t have a vast sum of money and I have become very curious to find out more about these bus'.
My question for now is if there was some sort of shift in the late 50's towards consumer bus production? I have many more questions and would be keen in the future to find out more from you about the specific bus' for which I can provide you with photos.
Hope everything is well with you. Have enjoyed your sight and will be back to it.
Long live the Route Master.
joseph
Joseph,
I'm sure those more knowledgeable on buses will comment, but in the meantime here's some basic info.
Yes, from the 1940s on there was a shift towards production of buses as trolleys were pretty much replaced in favor of buses as they could freely travel without overhead wires...
This abundance of buses meant that as they aged many were sold to smaller bus companies and individuals, church groups and schools. I remember my dad bought a 1958 PD-4104 GM bus from Greyhound in 1972 for around $7,000. Many of the larger church groups in the NYC area had their own buses as they weren't that expensive to buy although ongoing maintenance was a concern. That's really all I can provide. Good luck on your book.
