Dear Birnie,

just thought you would also appreciate, as would all other fishbowl fans, this photo. This is an absolutely well maintained 1967 fishbowl. It was originally purchased by Harran Transportation. This is the most recent paint scheme. It looks great. The interior was also redone and it looks great also.

Harran Transportation was originally in Nassau County, N.Y. Merrick Ave i believe and then moved into a very nice complex in West. Babylon, N.Y. They also operated GM 4905 coaches, but didn't keep any as a trophy bus.

Anyhow this fishbowl is now converted to automatic by use of a solenoid switch. (Used to be a 4 speed) it also is pressed into service when needed and it runs great. The only negative against this bus is it is still original. (No power steering)

YOUR COMMENTS

I am trying to find out what became of Harran Bus Transportation. (located at Babylon) L.I. N.Y. A friend told me a few weeks ago,the company went out of business.I had a brother who worked for this bus company some time ago. Last week (Sunday 9/14/07)I saw a bus going into the Division Ave High school parking lot. The red color code and NYC Logo on the side looked to be a Harran Bus.I was going to ask the driver if the bus was Harran, but did not.I have tried to search Harran Bus as a charter to Atlantic City but,I have been unable to locate Harran. My wife and I had traveled by Harran with the Tri County Shopping Center. If I am correct Harran has been in transportation since the late 1800's. Please find an answer for me. Sincerly Vinnie S.

Harran was the charter bus service of Jerusalem Avenue Bus Line, a private bus company that ran what is today's N55 (Hempstead-Amityville) and N? Merrick Train Station-Roosevelt Field. Though also ran a bus Hempstead-Seaford via Bellmore (Beltagh Avenue to Wantagh Avenue to Seaford Avenue to Verity Plaza (Washington Avenue and Merrick Road.) Before service was extended to Amityville, the N55 ran straight down Washington Avenue to Verity Plaza and then went out via Seaford Avenue to Hempstead.

I forgot to add that Jerusalem Avenue Lines also ran the Massapequa Park Loop. The loop ran north from the station, circled back to the station, then went south to the Bar Harbor Shopping Center on Merrick Road, then returned to the train station. In the summer, they operated service to Jones Beach via Sunrise Highway.

I forgot to add that the garage was on Jerusalem Avenue near Merrick Avenue, very close to the Southern State Parkway.

InterCounty Bus Lines was in Bablyon, not Harran.
