Dear Bernie:
I've came to your site from time to time to look at some other people's buses that they have sent into your visitor's gallery. I thought that I would contribute a couple photos of my buses that I own. The first bus is an Ex-Winnipeg Transit bus number 271 (Ex-158), a 1960 GM TDH5301, that was posted on page 29 of your visitor's gallery by Steve Parkin of Red Deer, AB (A brief history of this bus is found on that page).
During the summer of 2000, Steve sold me the bus as I had originally planned on restoring the bus. I have held onto it for almost 2 years now (Although it seems like I've had the bus a lifetime now) and was slowly working on the bus to restore it. Unfortunately because there was too much work to invest in this bus, I had haulted restoring that beautiful bus in favor for my new bus. My new bus is Ex-Edmonton Transit #638, a 1976 GM T6H5307N. The Edmonton bus was used until after the World Track & Field games that Edmonton hosted during the beginning of August 2001. The last date that I've been able to confirm my bus was in service was August 14 2001 according to a transfer I found under a seat while I was cleaning the bus up.
638 was auctioned off by the City of Edmonton on September 15th, 2001 and was sold to a private owner in Edmonton who had planned on converting the bus to a Motorhome. I purchased 638 from this owner only about 3 weeks ago on March 23, 2002 and this one is in better shape to restore. I hope to have 638 looking like new again in about a year or two, depending on how long it takes to fix this one up.
